The fruit for this wine came from the Orange wine region in New South Wales. The fruit was harvested and immediately transported to our winery in the Hunter Valley where it was crushed. Primary fermentation took place in 5 tonne stainless steel fermenters before being pressed off to tank where malolactic fermentation was allowed to finish. The wine was matured in 10% new French oak barriques for 12 months before being filtered and bottled.
The 2019 vintage in Orange began with a record cold winter and below average rainfall. The season remained dry, but with enough surface moisture to ensure strong growth of both canopy and fruit. Summer saw hot and dry conditions but luckily, Orange escaped the extreme hot weather that plagued other viticultural regions. Harvest began in late February and this signaled the start of a frantic vintage as all varieties, both white and red, seemed to ripen one all at once, the yields were lower and the quality is outstanding.
